The activities bus service will end on November 16, 2017, at the end of the fall season. The rationale for this recommendation is that this service is not self-funding. Administration and the School Board identified “self-funding” as critical to being able to provide this service when considering its launch at the beginning of the 2014-2015 school year.
Background
- The activities bus service began in the 2014-2015 school year as a pilot service. The plan was to have a fee-for-service system that would be self-funding. The service has continued to be provided.
- Generally, two buses and possibly a van have provided the service so that bus runs would not be unacceptably long.
- Bus departure time from the middle school and high school was designed such that it would be convenient for as many students as possible based on club and athletic schedules.
- Administration planned to monitor the service in regard to ridership, fees, and overall costs.
- The service is running at a deficit, despite best efforts to promote the service and streamline the costs.
