Greetings,
Winter Storm Jonas aka Snowtopia is headed our way in a few hours. Stores and gas stations are full of people prepping for some time inside with those nearest and dearest. Based on news reports it is fair to assume that an enormous amount of French toast will be consumed! Hopefully your pantries are full, your shovels are ready, your snowblowers are gassed up and you can locate all the gloves, hats, scarves, and boots!
Here in the Central Office we are also getting ready and all UCFSD buildings are closing tonight at 8:00 pm. In preparation for a couple of different blizzard scenarios here are the plans:
Activities for Saturday and Sunday are canceled (if Jonas does an exit stage left and misses us — we will consider opening our buildings for activities and events)
Monday is a half day for students — so we either have school on time — or we close
If we cancel school on Monday — Tuesday will be a full day
If we cancel school on Monday we may still have our Board meeting Monday night— assuming that conditions allow
As we head into a snowy weekend I urge everyone to be careful and to stay off the roads. The conditions will be great for reading, studying, practicing, talking, and drinking hot cocoa (with marshmallows!). Of course there is also sledding, building snowmen, and football (playoffs!). Nothing says togetherness quite like 20 inches of snow, 40 mph winds, and temperatures below freezing. Enjoy!
Please know that our custodial and maintenance staffs will be working long hours to keep parking lots clear and buildings accessible. We thank them in advance for their dedication- and know that when schools open next week- warm and safe- it is because of them.
Mother Nature has center stage now....so let it snow!
Cordially,
John Sanville
